Anxiety, Age-Related Health Problems

How anxiety could affect people of all ages especially those who are aging

We are all familiar with anxiety. Although it can affect people of any age, it becomes more common and perhaps more severe in later life. The symptoms of anxiety are:

  • A general feeling of uneasiness
  • Irritability
  • Tiredness
  • Shakiness
  • Palpitations or breathlessness
  • Bowel problems
  • Difficulty in sleeping

Conventionally, anxiety can be treated with drugs, counseling or a combination of both. Other specialized techniques are used in more severe forms of anxiety.

Help for less serious anxiety includes the following complementary therapies:

  • Massage to reduce the tension in the muscles
  • Aromatherapy to soothe the nerves and increase well-being
  • Touch therapy (the laying on of hands)
  • Hypnotherapy, particularly self-hypnosis, to help control stressful situations
  • Homeopathic remedies (gelsemium, phosphorus or arsenic to be taken after expert advice)
  • Naturopathy to stabilize the blood sugar levels

Many people use honey mixed in a hot drink for its sedative properties. It is necessary to avoid too much coffee or tea if you suffer from anxiety, because caffeine highlights the symptoms of the condition.
