A Diet to Prevent Osteoporosis

Thinning of the bones associated with aging can be prevented or at least slowed down by adopting a few lifestyle changes. One of these is to maintain a good intake of the mineral calcium. It is important to have a diet rich in calcium starting early in life. However, a good calcium intake is also essential later on.

Foods high in calcium include dairy products, green leafy vegetables, almonds, cereals, beans, tofu, sardines and whitebait (eaten with its bones). Alternatively, use calcium supplements in tablet or capsule form.

Vitamin D is essential in maintaining healthy bones. Sources include oily fish and fortified breakfast cereals or it can be in tablet form under medical supervision.
