A High Carbohydrate Small Snack Before Bed

Having a high carbohydrate small snack could help with sleep

A bedtime treat of toasted bread with jam or fruit and crackers can bring about the release of serotonin, a brain chemical that helps with sleep. Toasted bread and peanut butter does the trick for many people while a light snack of crakers with a glass of warm milk helps others to more easily drift off to sleep.

Assess your way of life and food intake to see if you can find the culprites of dreaded insomnia – for example, a heavy caloric meal at dinner, foods which can be too spicy and could bring on heartburn at bedtime, or habitually getting up during the night time for snacks and thus rewarding your stomach and establishing a bad habit. Eat a light, balanced dinner and a high-carbohydrate small snack before bed. You may find it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
