Beta Carotene

Fighting cancer with beta carotene

Research shows that beta carotene is an antioxidant and anti-cancer agent. It takes part in the fight against some types of cancer such as lung and stomach cancer. It is found in carrots, spinach, broccoli and other green vegetables, sweet potatoes, apricots, cantaloupes, pumpkins, mangoes and tangerines. The darker the colour of the fruit or vegetable, the higher the beta carotene content. Beta carotene is also found in calf’s liver, cod liver oil, corn, cheese and eggs.

Beta carotene is part of a large group of nutrients called carotenoids. Research shows that it may work better in association with other antioxidants such as flavonoids.
