Family Ties and Social Responsibilities Of Older People

How the social responsibilities and family ties do not cease even after getting old

Responsibilities to family and friends do not disappear at the time of retirement and your role as a giver of care may well persist. Anxieties about the failing health of your parents may dictate that you move nearer to them after your retirement from paid work. The need for child-care (for your grandchildren) may similarly put you under pressure to move nearer to a child and his or her family. Conversely, the need to fulfill these caring roles may prevent you from moving from your long-term residence if your family live nearby and need your help.
