Use Aloe to Treat Minor Insect Bites and Sunburns on the Skin

How to protect the skin from insect bites and sunburns with the aloe vera gel

Aloe vera is a wonderful and succulent plant that contains a gel or sappy liquid that has been used as an effective topical treatment for insect bites, minor sunburn, skin irritation as well as rashes arising due to the exposure to certain poisonous plants like ivy and poison oak. Aloe is an active ingredient which can be found in many well known skin care products such as shampoo, lip balm, sunscreen lotions, healing ointments, and various other varieties of cosmetics and skin care products. If possible, grow an aloe plant in your home or outside if you live in a warm climate.

To use the aloe on your skin, simply cut off a piece of a stalk and apply the cut end (which will ooze with sappy liquid) directly onto the skin. Although allergy to aloe is rare, however, if you think you are having an allergic response to it, prior consultation with your doctor would be recommended.
